 We are currently seeking two (2) dedicated staff to join the County as an Information Technology Specialist II.

One vacancy will support the Library and the other vacancy will support the Health & Social Services (H&SS) Department.

Solano County Library

Solano County Library is a progressive and innovative library with secure funding and widespread support from the community. The Solano County Library is guided in its mission to enrich the lives of the people in the County by a Strategic Plan, which is community focused, staff inspired, and outreach oriented. The Library serves the community with eight branches and virtual services in five of the seven cities in Solano County with a staff of 111.75 FTE.  The community showed its strong support by the passage of a dedicated sales tax measure in 1998 and an 80% yes vote in the June 2012 election continued the sales tax measure until 2030.   

DoIT - HSS Support Unit

Solano County Department of Information Technology provides customer-oriented and convenient access to information and services through the use of technology; anytime-anywhere.  The County strives for cost-effective use of technology, with interactive exchange and sharing of data within departments, with constituents, with other governments and business partners.  The journey level position will primarily support the Child Welfare Services and Older and Disabled Adult Services divisions, as well as other systems and projects as they arise.

The Position

The Information Technology Specialist II  initiates, coordinates and facilitates data and business systems support and assistance to users within a designated department; provides first line technical hardware and software support to users:  conducts and/or coordinates user training; operates and maintains servers and networks.

The Information Technology Specialist II is the journey level classification within the Information Technology Specialist job series.  Positions are characterized by analysis and development of automated solutions to a variety of business problems and perform lead supervisory and administrative tasks. 

The ideal candidate for this position will have a positive outlook in facing the challenges of working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to welcome change in a continuously evolving organization.

Additionally the ideal candidate for this position should have experience:

  • Administering and supporting large complex software applications and databases 
  • Interacting effectively with technical and non-technical users on a daily basis
  • Report writing
  • Developing clear plans of action
  • Taking initiative
  • Effectively prioritizing work 

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  

Education: Eighteen (18) semester hours is required in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Networking or a closely related field OR eighty (80) hours of designated coursework and/or certification training. 

 

Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing duties and functions similar in scope, responsibility, and technical expertise to the County’s Information Technology Specialist I.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license may be required of designated positions.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2017 calendar year is $1,430.11 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.  

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security. 

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.  

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Paid Time Off for every full hour worked.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination.
