Introduction

The current position is located at General Services Agency, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Urban Forestry/Street & Sewer Repair. 

 

Appointment Type: Temporary- Exempt Full-Time. The position is a backfill for a current employee who is on leave. The duration of the assignment is not known. In order to be considered for a permanent appointment, incumbent will be required to successfully compete in a Civil Service Examination.

 

Under direction, the Cement Finisher Supervisor II supervises the activities of subordinate staff engaged in a variety of masonry finishing and maintenance projects. The essential functions of this job include: supervising staff; planning and coordinating the work of subordinate supervisors, cement masons and related personnel; inspecting completed work and work-in-progress; preparing cost estimates; keeping statistical data and preparing reports; maintaining schedules and time rosters; requesting and recommending the purchase of new equipment and materials; monitoring and checking the condition and maintenance of tools and equipment; providing training to staff; attending and conducting safety meetings; responding to inquiries and complaints; and coordinating work with other craft supervisors.

 

Example of Important and Essential Duties:

1. Supervises staff by directing and evaluating assigned activities.

2. Plans and coordinates the work of subordinate supervisors, cement masons, tile setters, plasters, bricklayers and related personnel involved in masonry finishing and maintenance projects.

3. Inspects completed work and work-in-progress to ensure compliance with American with Disability Act (ADA) and federal and state building and construction codes.

4. Prepares cost estimates necessary to complete contractual bids.

5. Keeps statistical data and prepares reports on materials; labor and time spend on projects using computer software programs.

6. Maintains schedules and time rosters.

7. Requests and recommends the purchase of new equipment and materials.

8. Monitors and checks the condition and maintenance of tools and equipment.

9. Provides training to staff on the proper use of equipment and materials involved in masonry finishing and maintenance work.

10. Attends and conducts safety meetings.

11. Responds to inquiries and complaints from the public and others.

12. Coordinates work with other craft supervisors.

13. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1.      Two (2) years verifiable experience supervising Journey level Cement Masons. AND (Letter of verification required and must be submitted with application. Please see VERIFICATION SECTION below) AND

2.      Experience must be equivalent to City Job Code 7227

3.      Possession and maintenance of a valid driver license (You must submit a copy with your application)

VERIFICATION:

 

ALL applicants must submit verification of qualifying experience and training.  Verification of qualifying experience must be submitted on the employer’s letterhead and must state the name of the applicant, job title(s), job duties, dates of service (mm/dd/yy) and must be signed by employer or employer’s authorized representative.

 

City employees may submit performance evaluations as proof of qualifying City experience in lieu of other verification, but must verify outside qualifying experience as stated above.  City and County of San Francisco employees will receive credit for the duties of the class to which they are appointed.  Credit for experience obtained outside of the employee’s class will be allowed only if recorded in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Service Commission Rules.

 

Experience claimed in self-employment will only be considered if supported by documents verifying earnings, and duties comparable to minimum qualifications listed above.  Applicant must indicate details of all duties and experience used to meet the minimum qualifications on the application.  Copies of income tax records, business license or other documents listing occupation and total earnings must be submitted.

 

Verification of experience may be waived if impossible to obtain. The applicant must submit a signed statement with the application explaining why verification cannot be obtained. Waiver requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
