The purpose of this announcement is to fill a vacant position in this classification.

This is a limited term project position assigned to the Safety division of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFTMA) focused on the replacement and migration project for the agency’s existing system to a new technology that will archive, track and allow full analysis and measurement of key safety data and performance indicators. The Transit Safe Replacement Project is critical for the SFMTA’s Safety Division which relies on the database in order to comply with the federal transportation and workplace regulations.

Under general supervision, the incumbent performs difficult, responsible and specialized clerical work to support the data migration and integration process for the Transit Safe Replacement Project.  The designated 1406 Senior Clerk provides this clerical support during the procurement process, support of data tracking, entry level review of current data and system components and prepare data for cross-integration to the new system.  The incumbent also serves as an administrative staff tasked with supporting training efforts for full implementation. 

The incumbent interfaces with local, regional, state and/or federal transportation compliance agencies to stay informed of safety regulations, rules and policies.  The data for migration and integration is highly sensitive and industry specific to transportation safety regulations.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties:
• Provides specialized clerical support to the project lead and senior Safety management for the Transit Safe Replacement Project.
• Provides specialized clerical support for the data migration and integration process
• Provides specialized clerical support to the solicitation process for the new technology
• Reviews safety records in the existing Transit Safe system for completeness and accuracy to ensure quality control
• Assists with the collection of incident data, evaluation of investigations and creation of reports for the migration and integration process
• Assists with developing training materials for the new system
• Files, maintains, and retrieves documents, records and correspondence
• Prepares and maintains a variety of reports in which judgment may be exercised in the selection of data and materials
• Interacts with state and federal safety regulatory agencies.

1.Two (2) years of verifiable clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail; OR
2.Eighteen (18) months of verifiable clerical experience ad described in Minimum Qualification #1 AND completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR
3.Eighteen (18) months of verifiable clerical experience AND fifteen (15) semester units of coursework from an accredited college or university.

• Experience working in a transit agency and/or transportation industry.
• Familiarity, knowledge and/or understanding of transportation safety regulations.
• Knowledge of computer programs and technology such as integrated database systems.
• Highly proficient in computer based systems and programs such as Word, Excel including database systems.
• Familiarity and experience supporting organizations with projects and competitive bid processes.

Disaster Service Workers

All City and County of San Francisco employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.


All employees hired on or after January 10, 2009 will be required (pursuant to San Francisco Charter Section A8.432) to contribute 2% of pre-tax compensation to fund retiree healthcare. In addition, most employees are required to make a member contribution towards retirement, typically a 7.5% of compensation.
