Placer County Health and Human Services - Division of Public Health is currently recruiting for the position of Supervising Public Health Nurse. This eligible list may be used to fill future vacancies within the Department of Health and Human Services.
This recruitment may be used to fill both open and promotional vacancies in various County departments as they arise, subject to specific position requirements.
The current vacancy is located in Auburn, but may require program and service oversight of the Tahoe and South Placer County areas. This position will work with division staff and the community to address healthcare needs in Placer County. This position will also provide program oversight and direct supervision of staff for several Public Health programs, which could include The Children's Medical Service (California Children's Services, Child Health and Disability Prevention, and Foster Care), Public Health nursing services, communicable disease programs, and services to pregnant and parenting teens.
To plan, organize, direct, supervise and evaluate public health nursing activities and programs within the Public Health Division of the Department of Health and Human Services; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The Supervisor level recognizes positions that perform full, first-line supervisory responsibilities including planning, assigning and evaluating the work of subordinates and is responsible for a program area within a work unit or department.
Receives general direction from Deputy Director, Public Health Nursing.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned professional, clerical and technical personnel.

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
All applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be required to respond to an online Conviction History Questionnaire, which will be sent as a link on their notification that minimum qualifications have been met. Failure to respond to this questionnaire within (3) three calendar days of the minimum qualification notification will result in disqualification from the examination.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination, which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation, sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation and/or be bonded.
All new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and those in management and confidential groups, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
