Placer County is currently recruiting for one permanent full time Building Crafts Mechanic - Senior in the Tahoe Area. The Building Crafts Mechanic - Senior functions as a key member of a team that ensures the County's facilities are well maintained and provide a safe physical environment for both employees and its customers. With several offices located in Tahoe, California, the Senior Building Crafts Mechanic is responsible for both leased and County owned buildings in Placer County. The ideal candidate will have leadership and project management experience supplemented with experience in building crafts such as general construction, HVAC, fire suppression systems, plumbing, electrical, knowledge of automated computer maintenance systems and general knowledge of all trades.
Salary plus additional $775 per month Tahoe Branch Assignment Premium for employees who demonstrate and certify residency in the Tahoe basin.
To perform with a high level of skill and independent judgement, a designated skilled craft(s) such as electrical, painting, cabinet/furniture making, metal fabrication, plumbing, air conditioning/ refrigeration, heating, fire sprinkler systems, or environmental systems and controls; to perform installations, maintenance, and regular and emergency repairs to public buildings, structures, and equipment in a designated craft(s)/trade(s); to perform a variety of responsible project scheduling and coordination functions; and to exercise technical and functional supervision over designated crew members on a regular basis.
This is the advanced journey level class in the Building Crafts Mechanic series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed, complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, and by the nature of the public contact made. Employees at this level perform a variety of project coordination functions for assigned area(s) of responsibility as well as serving as a liaison between client division/department, other building maintenance crew(s), and any additional involved parties; exercise technical and functional supervision over designated crew members on a regular basis; perform the full range of skilled craft duties in an independent manner; and are required to be fully proficient in a designated assigned craft/trade area or may be assigned to learn additional crafts/trades.
Receives direction from a Supervising Building Crafts Mechanic and/or management and supervisory staff.
Exercises technical and functional supervision over building maintenance staff and/or other designated crew members on a regular basis.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Two years of responsible building crafts experience performing duties similar to a Building Crafts Mechanic with Placer County.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented with approved coursework in project management, general construction management, and/or supervisory training.

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
All applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be required to respond to an online Conviction History Questionnaire, which will be sent as a link on their notification that minimum qualifications have been met. Failure to respond to this questionnaire within (3) three calendar days of the minimum qualification notification will result in disqualification from the examination.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination, which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation, sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation and/or be bonded.
All new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and those in management and confidential groups, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
The eligible list(s) resulting from this recruitment may be certified as a substitute list for a substantially similar classification. For this purpose, a substantially similar classification is one at a lower level in the same classification (example: entry level vs. journey) and/or a similar classification (similar work performed, similar training and experience qualifications required).
