According to the United States Department of Transportation, the average driver spends 55 minutes a day behind the wheel and drives an average of 29 miles per day. For Placer County, key to ensuring that drivers in its unincorporated areas make it from point A to Point B is the work and effort of the Department of Public Works and Facilities' Road Maintenance Division. The Road Maintenance Team is responsible for repairing and maintaining over 1,000 miles of roadways from the Roseville area to Lake Tahoe. This includes providing roadside tree and vegetation control, emergency roadway hazard response, repairing and maintaining 125 bridges, roadway signs and signals, as well as snow removal for 235 miles of roadway in eastern Placer County including Lake Tahoe.
With corporation yards located in Auburn, Lincoln, Foresthill, Colfax and Lake Tahoe, and an annual budget of $19.3 million, the Road Maintenance Team is dedicated to getting its residents, businesses, and visitors to their destination on safe and maintained roadways. The Road District Supervisor - Senior plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Roads Division in a designated road district. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, experience with supervising road construction and maintenance crews, administering safety and injury prevention plans, is self-directed, and has strong collaborative skills. This position does require possession of a valid Class B driver's license.

To plan, organize and direct the activities of the Roads Division in a geographically-designated road district within the Public Works Department; to coordinate section activities with other divisions or departments; and to provide highly responsible technical support to the Assistant Road Superintendent and Road Superintendent.
The Senior Supervisor level recognizes positions that provide full second-line, direct supervision to employees within a work section and/or assumes substantive and significant programmatic responsibility in a defined area or specialty.
Receives general direction from the Assistant Road Superintendent and Road Superintendent.
Exercises direct supervision over supervisory and technical personnel.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in road construction, maintenance and repair that involved operation of various types of motorized equipment, including two years of supervisory responsibility.
Training: Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in heavy equipment maintenance and operation, construction technology or a related field. Please note: Two or more additional years of experience described above may be substituted for the equivalent of an Associates degree. Such experience must be clearly described in the work history section of the application to be considered as a substitute.
License or Certificate

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
All applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be required to respond to an online Conviction History Questionnaire, which will be sent as a link on their notification that minimum qualifications have been met. Failure to respond to this questionnaire within (3) three calendar days of the minimum qualification notification will result in disqualification from the examination.
Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination, which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation, sign a constitutional oath and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation and/or be bonded.
All new permanent employees, with the exception of sworn law enforcement and those in management and confidential groups, shall be required to join the employee organization or pay an 'Agency Fee' as a condition of employment.
