The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue’s Fire Marshal’s Office is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Fire Plan Reviews and Inspector position working 40 hours a week. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Review all assigned plans for compliance with the Loudoun County Fire Prevention Code and related ordinances. Maintain strict compliance with the review time limits established by the Fire Official so as to meet the intent of the Loudoun County Fire Prevention Code and related ordinances. Perform assigned fire, life safety, explosives use, storage and transport inspections and related follow up activities in a timely and professional manner. Provide complete and accurate reports, inclusive of notice of violation(s) when/where appropriate, to customers and supervisors. Issue permits in accordance with the Loudoun County Fire Prevention Code and related ordinances. Ensure required fire inspector/NFPA 1031 certifications are current. Pro-actively provide technical information to, but not limited to, owners, contractors, architects and the general public in a professional, friendly, courteous, and timely manner. Manage/participate in special projects, as assigned.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and six (6) years’ experience in fire prevention/inspection or building construction trade to include considerable experience interacting with the public (prefer college coursework in fire prevention or engineering). Requires comprehensive knowledge of theory, principles, practices and techniques related to general fire prevention, fire suppression, and plans review, as outlined in NFPA 1031. Must obtain certifications as an inspector and plans reviewer by the State Board of Housing and Community Development in accordance with the Virginia Certification Standards (13 VAC 5-21) and the Statewide Fire Prevention Code. Maintain the required certifications in accordance with the Virginia Certifications Standard. Must maintain a valid state driver's license in accordance with Loudoun County HR policy. Must possess and maintain certification in the following: CPR, and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens.
This position is critical in nature and considered essential/emergency personnel subject-to-call during local emergencies for purposes of emergency/crisis management to include being “on call” or responding to emergency situations. In the event of an emergency, employee may be required to work and/or may be assigned to the Emergency Operations Center or elsewhere to carry out the essential functions of County Government. Occasional after-hours duty for emergencies will be required. May work in hazardous conditions during emergency operations.
