The Department of General Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill this vacancy within the Waste Management Division. The successful candidate will provide daily work supervision over the scale operations, disposal area operations, and over such projects as litter control, turf seeding, fence row maintenance, haul road construction/repair, silt fence installation, soil erosion repair, sediment pond maintenance, etc.; provide direct supervision on Saturdays and when the landfill manager is not on-site; inspect and operate equipment to include, but not limited to: excavator, backhoe, skid loader, forklift, tractors and mowers, various single-unit trucks with trailers, water trucks, sand-bagging equipment, articulated dump truck and miscellaneous powered hand tools; and assist in planning, developing, and executing essential safety and operational training programs.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and at least 6 years’ of directly related experience in applied technology, equipment operation and maintenance, agriculture and/or facilities management and landfill operations experience required, including at least 2 years supervisor experience. Bilingual English/Spanish is desired.
A valid driver's license is required; a valid Class “A” CDL is preferred. VA Waste Management Facility Operator License required or able to receive within one year of employment. Must be available to work Tue-Sat. from 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM. Subject to recall or being held beyond scheduled workday; must be available to respond to County emergencies (24/7) as directed in accordance with Department policy and written or verbal directive.
