This is a management position within the Department of Building and Development. This position supervises a staff up to seven, and assumes the responsibilities of the Assistant Director for Land Subdivision as necessary. The Land Subdivision Division is responsible for the review and processing of all subdivision applications for the County, bonds management, customer service including file room maintenance, front counter operations and zoning hotline, as well as providing professional guidance to other County agencies related to land development matters. Daily duties include managing, supervising and supporting staff in the review of subdivision applications; attend meetings with applicants to resolve issues; monitors applications to ensure that timelines are met; meet with local officials as necessary; coordinate application reviews with other County agencies; and manage and review applications as needed. This position also assumes the responsibilities of the front counter supervisor as needed; works regularly with members of the public and manages the intake function of administrative applications. The applicant must have the ability to analyze, process and negotiate and performs a multitude of advanced professional planning tasks including: the ability to manage and review complex land development applications; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with applicants, staff, and members of the general public to advise and respond to land development questions. The applicant must also maintain a thorough knowledge of County operations, policies, and procedures; possess and maintain a thorough knowledge of County, State and Federal land use regulations, principles, practices and methodologies of the planning profession. Public speaking ability to deliver presentations to local Boards, Commissions, and citizen groups is desired. Applicant must be able to communicate effectively to a wide range of customers and be committed to providing quality public service.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Planning or related field and 2 years directly related experience. Supervisory or management experience is preferred.
Must be available for occasional after business hours meetings with members of the public and/or elected officials.
