A class incumbent works under general supervision from an administrative superior and is responsible for boundary and construction surveying and preparing descriptions and plans for use as legal instruments in conveyance of real property and property rights. Work includes supervision of survey personnel involved in preliminary, construction and final surveys. A class incumbent also consults with department's engineers, designers, contractor representatives, utility companies, local government officials and the general public to resolve problems regarding construction and/or surveying activities.

• Oversees the measuring, locating, establishing and reestablishing of corners, lines, boundaries, elevations, contours and natural and manmade features for the purpose of determining or establishing size, area, shape, topography and orientation of real property.
  
  
• Prepares plots to be recorded and horizontal alignments, profiles and typical sections for roads, utilities, sanitary sewers and storm drainage systems.
  
  
• Prepares descriptions and plans for use as legal instruments in conveyance of real property and property rights.
  
  
• Researches deeds and reviews property maps to ensure proper location of property lines.
  
  
• Supervises and participates in the monumentation and remonumentation of boundaries of lands, divisions of land, tracts, parcels and lots.
  
  
• Consults with appropriate engineering employees to resolve difficult or unusual problems of an engineering nature.
  
  
• Attends preconstruction conferences to assist in reviewing survey activities related to proposed construction.
  
  
• Plans, organizes and supervises the activities of survey personnel.
  
  
• Trains new employees and provides instruction in the application of new surveying methods or procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Surveyor
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Possession of a Professional Land Surveyor license.
2. Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
