Summary Statement

This class is responsible for planning, creating, editing, publishing, distributing and marketing of an agency's digital or print publication or multimedia productions.

Nature and Scope

The class incumbent reports to a technical or administrative superior. Work involves researching, writing and editing appropriate articles, scripts, art and photography, and/or multimedia productions (e.g. taped and live videos; live and prerecorded radio broadcasts; broadcast type closed circuit teleconferences; and other similar productions, such as slide shows with sound accompaniments). . The materials are edited for adherence to agency brand and editorial style guidelines, as well as content, accuracy, clarity, syntax, and grammar. In addition, an incumbent may be responsible for administering a production budget and coordinating contract letting/performance with outside contractors. Such contracts may include writing, art, audio/visual content, photography, design, layout, printing and distribution. Work includes developing marketing concepts and related materials. Contacts routinely include all levels of agency management and staff and outside contractors responsible for the production's various steps. In addition, the incumbent assists with other marketing communication projects.

Essential Functions

  • Plans content by determining appropriate article or multimedia subjects and audio/visual materials through collaboration with agency colleagues.
       
  • Researches, writes and edits appropriate articles, creative storyboarding and scripts, art and photography, and/or multimedia productions (e.g. taped and live videos; live and prerecorded radio broadcasts; broadcast type closed circuit teleconferences; and other similar productions, such as slide shows with sound accompaniments).
       
  • Establishes and monitors production schedule and resolves production problems.
       
  • Oversees and approves layout and storyboarding to ensure accuracy, quality, cost and deadline compliance.
       
  • Prepares, justifies and controls the annual production budget for the publication or production. Develops bid specifications/contracts, recommends contractors, monitors contracts for compliance and reviews/approves contractors work.
       
  • Plans and develops promotional strategies and materials to increase engagement and reach; evaluate performance,  data and trends.
       
  • Assists with other informational, promotional and educational activities/productions by planning and coordinating content, writing and editing a variety of internal and external marketing communications projects, such as employee messages, opinion editorials, marketing pieces, website copy, speeches and feature articles.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Editor/Producer
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in planning, writing, formatting and editing information for a magazine, newspaper or other production.
  2. Six months experience writing a variety of marketing or communications projects.
  3. Six months experience evaluating content performance to optimize content strategy.
  4. Knowledge of editorial standards for the research and development of journalistic articles and other content.
  5. Knowledge of design and production of print, digital information or other multimedia production.

Legislative Council:

  1. Six months experience in the design and production of print or digital information.
  2. Six months experience in planning, writing, formatting, and editing published information.
  3. Knowledge of management and control which includes ensuring compliance with terms and negotiating changes to existing terms.
