The class incumbent is responsible for managing the sheltered workshop for the visually impaired.
Supervises a staff of 9 employees assigned to the program visually impaired staff/client 60-75.
Nature and Scope
The incumbent reports to the Division Director and supervises program staff. The incumbent is responsible for planning and developing employment programs for visually impaired individuals. The incumbent oversees and manages the operation of the workshop, promotes sales of workshop products and monitors and secures government contracts. In addition, the incumbent develops and monitors the workshop's operational budget. A significant aspect of this work involves the marketing of the workshop services to generate sales, thereby providing work for the visually impaired.

Oversees the operation of the sheltered workshop for the visually impaired.
Directs shop methods, production and workflow.
Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of vocational training personnel (class titles/contract) engaged in providing instruction to the visually impaired in work methods and procedures.
Analyzes business trends, production requirements and capabilities to determine appropriate workshop programs and projects.
Sets production standards, develops and monitors quality control procedures.
Identifies supply equipment and manpower requirements for program operation and executes logistical plans and procedures for their acquisition.
Assesses cost of production and determines product pricing.
Promotes workshop and sales programs via planning and executing public relations campaigns, speaking before business and community groups, arranging relations campaigns, speaking before business and community groups, arranging product displays and conducting tours of the workshop.
Prepares statistical reports pertaining to production activities for use in measuring workshop performance and conformity with established goals and requirements.
Develops work/employment programs to serve the needs of the visually impaired, particularly those with multiple disabilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Manager Sheltered Workshop f/t Visually Impaired
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competencies in each of the following areas:
Bachelors degree or higher in Behavioral or Social Science or related field.
Three years experience in case management which includes assessing, planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating options and services to meet an individuals human service needs.
Three years experience in making recommendations as part of a clients service plan such as clinical treatment, counseling, or determining eligibility for health or human services/benefits.
Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
Six months experience in staff supervision of two or more employees which includes to plan, assign, review, discipline, recommend hire, promotion, termination and administer performance plans and reviews.
