An incumbent in this class is responsible for supervising the work of staff engaged in providing assistance to individuals seeking to obtain services provided through the Family Court of Delaware.
Supervises 10-12 Child Support Officers, Social Service Specialists and clerical support staff.
Nature and Scope
The incumbent in this class performs with direction from an administrative superior and is responsible for planning and assigning the work of staff engaged in providing drug/alcohol evaluations and the intake and processing of petitions for child support as well as other civil and criminal petitions. Work includes reviewing the work of staff for conformance to procedural and statutory requirements, resolving problems in the processing of petitions and assessing current practices and procedures to ensure compliance with State, Federal and court regulations. In addition the incumbent coordinates daily functional areas of the unit and recommends changes to improve operations. Other positions reporting in at this level include Mediation, and Criminal Investigation Unit Supervisors. Typical contacts are with judges, Masters, attorneys, Division of Child Support Enforcement, out of State Courts and outside social service agencies for the purpose of resolving issues related to child support, drug/alcohol program, and the processing of petitions.

Plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of unit staff.
Determines initial and ongoing training needs of staff; Provides technical guidance to staff.
Serves as information source to community, clients and other related agencies on court jurisdiction and services.
Prepares monthly statistical reports of unit activities and other special reports as required.
Provides input on the development and/or revision of procedures and policies.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Child Support Unit Supervisor Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Three years experience in health or human services work such as applying theories, principles, laws and practices of health or human services programs and services that assist with and improve life for individuals, families, or communities such as financial support, employment, unemployment, housing, health care, disease prevention, substance abuse, child protective services, physical/mental health treatment and prevention or rehabilitation.
Three years experience in case management which includes assessing, planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating options and services to meet an individuals human service needs.
Three years experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
Six months experience in narrative report writing.
Six months experience in staff supervision of two or more employees which includes to plan, assign, review, discipline, recommend hire, promotion, termination and administer performance plans and reviews.
