Incumbents in this class serve as lead workers for roadway signing projects.

Nature and Scope

Incumbents in this class work under general supervision of a technical superior. They are responsible for roadway signing and pavement marking projects.  As lead workers, they direct others and prepare reports to account for man-hours, materials and equipment used on individual projects.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees crews installing signs or pavement markings (tape or paint).
  • Prepares sites for sign installation.
  • Determines proper layouts for intersection markings.
  • Operates hand and power tools such as air hammers, pipe installers and pullers, saws, etc.
  • Operates motor vehicles, tape machines, hand rollers and air compressors.
  • Submits daily reports to account for materials, man-hours and equipment used.
  • Maintains inventories of supplies.
  • Provides training for less experienced installers.

  • Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and applicable laws, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Skill in the operation of power and hand tools.
  • Ability to assign, train, oversee and inspect work of others.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, blue prints and plans.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to prepare necessary records and others documentation.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Traffic Sign Installer Specialist
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in operating a variety of hand and power tools used in trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting or HVAC.
  2. Knowledge of interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings.
  3. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
