This class is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Department of Labor's large scale computer facility.
Supervises directly and through subordinate supervisors, 15+ applications support, systems software specialists, data entry, production control and computer operations employees.
Responsible for 24 hour-a-day operations.
Responsible for 2+ contracts.
Nature and Scope
An incumbent in this class reports to an Information Systems Manager. Duties include the responsibility for the operation of a multi-processing, teleprocessing mainframe computer, planning, assigning, reviewing and evaluating the work of subordinates engaged in modifying, installing, and maintaining the system software which controls computer operations, designing, modifying and installing applications software, production/quality control, tape library, data entry and systems security. Responsibilities require review and recommendation of equipment acquisition as well as planning and implementation of telecommunication facilities. Typical contacts beyond the EDP unit include system users throughout the Department, other states and federal agencies, vendors of software, hardware and maintenance/service.

Directs, coordinates and oversees the operation of an on-line and batch processing mainframe computer and peripheral equipment.
Supervises and participates in the modification, installation and maintenance of the complex software controlling the computer operating system, the data base and the teleprocessing functions; discerning any degradation of performance and taking appropriate action.
Responsible for the functions of production/quality control, tape library, applications support and data entry.
Administers the system's security.
Responds to users' requests or complaints, ensuring timely and accurate data processing.
Serves on departmental committees concerning automatic data processing.
Coordinates and implements new/modified data processing systems.
Ensures compliance with agency standards for electronic data processing and recommends new policies and procedures.
Recommends purchase of new hardware and software.
Determines operating costs periodically and recommends pricing structure for data center services.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Manager DOL Data Center
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Three years experience in information system security administration which includes planning, directing, coordinating, evaluating and monitoring IT security operations, establishing program objectives; planning short and long range program goals; developing, implementing and enforcing IT security program policies, procedures.
Three years experience in database management concepts and systems development lifecycle methodology.
Three years experience in designing, developing and maintaining information systems.
Six months experience in information technology project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on status of IT projects.
Six months experience in staff supervision of two or more employees which includes to plan, assign, review, discipline, recommend hire, promotion, termination and administer performance plans and reviews.
