Class incumbents are responsible for managing the daily operations of a main frame computer facility.
Supervises 15-20 technical and computer operations staff directly and through subordinate supervisors on a multiple-shift basis which may be a 24 hour day operation.
Nature and Scope
Incumbents in this class function under general direction from an administrative/technical superior. Incumbents plan, direct, coordinate and oversee computer operations and technical support including supervision of the staff (recruiting, hiring, training, work assignment and evaluating performance). Significant responsibilities involve systems planning, coordination, design and development to meet needs of user agencies. Typical contacts include representatives of user agencies and vendor representatives. In addition, a class incumbent coordinates planning and budgetary processes related to the facility and advises on hardware/software acquisitions.

Plan, direct, coordinate and oversee a computer support facility.
Conduct long-range planning sensitive to the total data processing needs of various user agencies.
Participate in planning and budgetary processes related to the facility.
Coordinate the research, design and development of computer operations as needed by a user agency. Keep abreast with changing computer hardware requirments and make recommendations for the purchase of such hardware.
Meet with the various section heads to discuss data processing needs and furnish on-going support and coordination between sections and computer support.
Monitor the operation of the computer system hardware, it's operating software, the security of the data being processed and the accuracy and integrity of all data being stored within the computer system.

Ability to analyze advances in the data processing field and to keep abreast with the rapidly changing technology.
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Manager Biggs Data Center
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Three years experience in information system security administration which includes planning, directing, coordinating, evaluating and monitoring IT security operations, establishing program objectives; planning short and long range program goals; developing, implementing and enforcing IT security program policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and ensuring compliance; providing security consultation to other organizational units.
Three years experience in database management concepts and systems development lifecycle methodology.
Three years experience in designing, developing and maintaining information systems.
Six months experience in information technology project management which includes planning, scheduling, staffing, coordinating, controlling, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on status of IT projects.
Six months experience in staff supervision of two or more employees which includes to plan, assign, review, discipline, recommend hire, promotion, termination and administer performance plans and reviews.
