Seasonal Recreation Leader

Examples of Duties

Recreation Centers/Parks/Playgrounds      

 Summer Recreation/Youth Leaders ($9.50-$10.00, Youth - $8.10/hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent (OR 16 years or older for Summer Youth Leaders); be able to commit to a 10 - week schedule; be able to attend (2) four hour paid training sessions. Directs a variety of recreational leadership and educational activities at an assigned recreation center or playground. Supervises participants in individual and group games, arts and crafts, sports, and special activities, in addition to coaching and officiating team activities. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities, work varied hours including evening and weekend hours, work with participants of various ages, and work at various locations. Some experience and/or education working with children in art instruction, recreation or physical education is desired. Youth Leader: assists with activities in an all-day seasonal camp and/or after-hours program for youth.

Summer Specialty Camps  

Mangrove Marcus Camp Leaders ($10.00 - $16.00/hour.)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; possess a valid Florida driver's license; be able to commit to a 5- week schedule; be able to attend (2) paid training sessions; experience working with school age children in a lead capacity is preferred.  Camp Director position is responsible for the organization and administration of an all-day seasonal camp for children that is focused on a natural aquatic environment, oversees day to day activities, supervises campers and subordinate staff.  Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outside setting. (Camp Director position does not require Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification). Camp Leaders must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outside setting, oversees the safety of campers in an aquatic environment, and is able to perform a high level of swimming ability in various aquatic settings.  Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding (CPR/First Aid/AED) is required.   

 Joe Abrahams Sports Camps ($10.00 - $16.00/hour, Youth - $8.10/hour)

 Applicants must be at least 18 years or older for Camp Director, Camp Key Leader and Camp Leader positions (OR 16 years or older for Joe Abrahams Sports Camps Youth Leaders); some experience working with school age children in a lead capacity or participation in organized sports leagues is preferred; possess a valid Florida driver's license is preferred; be able to commit to a 10-week schedule; be able to attend (two) paid training sessions. Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outdoor setting, insures the safety of campers in a sports environment and to perform a high level of developmental instruction in various sports. Camp Leaders: lead activities in an all-day seasonal camp for children focused on an instructional sports environment. Youth Leaders: assist with activities in an all-day seasonal camp for children focused on an instructional sports environment.  

Summer Arts Program Leader ($10.00 an hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; possess a valid Florida Driver's License, be able to commit to a 7 week schedule. These positions implement hands-on art activities and encourage creativity in an artistic environment for children ages 6-14. Directs youth and performs tasks at an art studio, recreation center, or playground. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities and work with participants of various ages. Some experience and/or education working with children in art instruction is preferred.   

Summer Reading Instructors ($12.00 an hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a teaching certificate in elementary reading; possess a valid Florida Driver's License, be able to commit to a 7 week schedule. These positions implement hands-on reading and art activities in a camp environment for elementary age children. Directs youth and performs tasks at a recreation center or playground. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities and work with participants of various ages.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
