Maintains files on criminals’ modus operandi (MO); maintains support and other files; organizes data for analysis.
Identifies stolen property through investigative analysis.
Utilizes various databases to gather and disseminate information.
Assists as necessary in: developing methods for correlation of data and determination of patterns, trends, or common characteristics relating to crime within the municipality; developing conclusions and recommendations for improvement or correction of specific or related crime problems; gathering of information; performing regular or specific research analyses of crimes, social, and economic data; maintaining significant characteristics abstracts of past and current crime patterns and trends within the city; providing operating and staff units with information concerning current and past investigations; implementing improvements within the crime analysis unit and in coordination with other units.
When assigned as a property specialist, may visit pawn shops and secondhand dealers to search for stolen property.
Prepares and submits daily reports.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: statistical methods and research concepts and techniques.
Some knowledge of: computer techniques, statistical application, and capabilities.
Ability to: develop a working knowledge of the principles of, and developments in, crime analysis methods, techniques, and data sources; gather and organize data for analysis; interpret and analyze crime and other data; prepare and present clear and concise reports and recommendation both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
