Nature Of Work

The selected candidate will be the lead project manager performing, supervising, and coordinating construction, engineering, and inspection work in the field and office, and other related work as required.

Examples of Duties

  • Oversees projects in the Traffic Management section.
  • Manages the traffic signal system contract, coordinates with the appropriate agencies, and reports project phases.
  • Supervises the project management, GIS and traffic counts teams.
  • Investigates and responds to customer service issues relative to traffic signal timings and signal facilities.
  • Oversees staff responsible for reversing the Selmon Expressway Reversible Lanes per the agreement with the Hillsborough County Expressway Authority (THEA).
  • Supervises the installation, operations and maintenance of the traffic monitoring CCTV system.
  • Responsible for operations and maintenance of the Intelligent Transportation System.
  • Conducts design reviews for projects within the City including FDOT, developer, City CIP, TECO, etc. 
  • Serves as the Project Manager with the full expertise to manage the Traffic Management Center as needed.
  •  Performs other related duties in support of Traffic Management initiatives as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

·  Principles and practices of the assigned area of engineering; federal, state, and municipal rules, regulations, ordinances, and other pertinent documents.

·  Knowledge of the MUTCD is required.

·  Engineering developments and information related to traffic engineering and operations; supervisory techniques.

·  FDOT design and engineering specifications and guidelines relative to roadway, ITS, traffic signals, signing/marking and safety.

· Smart City applications and related initiatives.

Ability to:

·  Coordinate, assign, supervise, and review the work of others engaged in a variety of engineering assignments.

·  Plan, design, and prepare complete engineering plans and specifications for major projects.

·  Read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.

·  Analyze engineering data and draw sound conclusions; prepare and submit detailed, clear, and concise reports, both orally and in writing.

·  Train others in the assigned area, as well as to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public.

Skill in:

·  Use of computing, mobile and software tools including MS Office, spreadsheets, databases, and applicable engineering software (models).

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably related to the area of assignment, and three (3) years of engineering experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Licenses or Certifications

A valid Florida driver’s license is required. Florida P.E. license (or ability to obtain one within 12 months) is desired.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
