Starting Salary Ranges:

AWT Plant Tech I (O25) - $38,521.60 - $54,849.60

AWT Plant Tech II (O28) - $43,388.80 - $61,692.80

Nature Of Work

This job title is used to fill positions with many different skill sets. This position may perform semiskilled work in the electrical, instrumentation, mechanical or operations areas at the 96 MGD Howard F. Curren Advanced Wastewater Treatment (AWT) Plant. Employee performs duties and assigned tasks in conformance with established procedures requiring the exercise of reasonable initiative and independent judgment. Many work activities involve hazardous materials and/or equipment and employees must comply with appropriate safety precautions when dealing with gas system, electrical system and other similar components and processes within the plant environment. Employees perform tasks that include climbing ladders, working in confined spaces and lifting 50 pounds. The successful candidate will work on a rotating 24/7-shift schedule with eight other technicians/shift. Tasks require the ability to work in a team environment.

Knowledges, Skills & Abilities

Working Knowledge of: Activated sludge processes, anaerobic digestion, nitrification/de-nitrification and chlorination/de-chlorination.  The use of SCADA systems to monitor and control plant processes.

Knowledge of: mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems as they apply to the wastewater treatment process.

Ability to: to work shift work including nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. The ability to troubleshoot process problems in many different areas of wastewater treatment.

Minimum Qualifications

AWT employees – Must meet criterion for Level I on the job skills matrix.

Others - Graduation from an accredited high school or GED with
two (2) years of utility operations or industrial experience;
or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: External hires have 6 months beyond the standard probationary period to achieve the qualifying skills set.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida commercial driver’s license.

Examination

Evaluation of training and experience.

Selected candidates must pass a federal background check for Port of Tampa access.

Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
