Solano County Library is a progressive and innovative library with secure funding and widespread support from the community. The Solano County Library is guided in its mission to enrich the lives of the people in the County by a Strategic Plan, which is community focused, staff inspired, and outreach oriented. The Library serves the community with eight branches and virtual services in five of the seven cities in Solano County with a staff of 108 FTE. The community showed its strong support by the passage of a dedicated sales tax measure in 1998 and a 80% yes vote in the June 2012 election continued the sales tax measure until 2030.  

THE POSITION

Supervising Librarians plan, organize and supervise a large library section or a small library branch with several professional librarians and technical support staff.  They are responsible for the training and supervision of staff; scheduling; providing professional and outreach services directly to the public; making budget recommendations and monitoring expenditures; representing the library in the community; assisting in policy formulation and implementation; and collection development.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university is required.

Experience: Three years of professional library services experience with supervisory training and experience.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2015 calendar year is $1,393.18 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage.

n Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.  

n Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.  

n Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.

n The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.  

n Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, and 30 years.

VETERANS PREFERENCE POINTS

To be eligible, applicants must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions.
