CLASS 2409 PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

The Department of Public Health's Jail Health Services is accepting applications for one (1) full time position in class 2409 Pharmacy Technician.
SHIFT: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Under general supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician supports the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients served by the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The essential job functions include:
Accurately prepares, compounds and mixes drugs and pharmaceuticals;
Prepackages and labels drugs;
Prepares medication labels;
Records information for billing;
Maintains accurate pharmacy records;
Maintains drug and pharmaceutical stock levels;
Inspects and stores stock;
Delivers, retrieves and exchanges medications;
Provides information to staff, patients and health care professionals;
Orients and trains new personnel; and
Performs other related duties as assigned/required.
One (1) year of experience (in the last 5 years) assisting in the preparation of drug and pharmaceutical items in a licensed pharmacy; AND
License and Certification:
Possession of a valid Pharmacy Technician License/Registration issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
Possession of a valid Intern Pharmacist License/Registration issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy may substitute for the required experience and license.
NOTE:Desktop Computer/Typewriter Operations Requirement:
During the probationary period, successful incumbents will be required to demonstrate the ability to operate a desktop computer and/or typewriter to perform their assignments. Successful incumbents must also be able to type at a rate of twenty-five (25) words per minute. Failure to perform this function may result in dismissal or termination from employment.
Condition of Employment:
Security clearance issued by the Sheriff's Department is required prior to appointment to positions with Jail Medical Services and must be maintained for continued employment. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of security clearance may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment.
- Must be able to lift pharmaceuticals and supplies weighing up to thirty (30) lbs.
The stated desirable qualification may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

The selection process will include evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, the Department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate qualifications of candidates. If this becomes necessary, only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the Department will be invited for an interview.
