Incumbent will conduct the majority of work at the Department of Technology, 1800 Jerrold Ave. San Francisco, CA 94124. However, there may be situations where the incumbent will be required to work at other sites throughout the City of San Francisco as required.
The Student Intern Program is designed to attract, develop, groom and retain innovative Public Safety Technology professionals in local government. Interns are expected to work and gain experience in various public safety technologies like radio systems, electronic alarm systems, video systems, IT network and application systems, fiber systems, Wi-Fi, etc. Working under the direction of executive and supervisory management, each intern will gain hands-on experience related to all technical aspects of public safety technology operations and services.
Duties may include:
· Radio installation, repair and trouble shooting.
· Fire and burglar alarm installation, repair, and trouble shooting.
· Video and surveillance system installation, repair, and trouble shooting.
· Network, switch and router maintenance and trouble shooting.
· Outdoor warning and PA system maintenance and trouble shooting.
· Fiber and cable installation and trouble shooting.
· Assisting with Wi-Fi projects
· Synthesize and analyze information, formulate options and recommendations.
· Organize and present recommendations.
· Develop and present alternative action plans.
· Investigate new technologies, electronic practices and determine their potential usefulness.
· Documentation, project tracking, time sheet entry etc.
Applicants must have completed one year of engineering or science in an accredited College. Some work experience in the field of Electronics, Radio, Computer Science or Auto CAD or any Public Safety Technology Services is preferred AND
Applicant must be currently enrolled and attending an accredited degree program OR
Returning to their undergraduate program or entering into a graduate program.
