1840 – Junior Management Assistant
Curb Ramp Program
APPOINTMENT TYPE: Permanent-Exempt. The General Services Agency Department of Public Works has an opening for an exempt appointment in San Francisco. The position is excluded by the Charter from competitive civil service examination process. Exempt Employees are considered “AT WILL” and serve at the pleasure of the appointing officer. Position has an anticipated duration of three years.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Under supervision of the Project Manager, the Junior Management Assistant provides administrative and management support for the Curb Ramp Program. Specific duties for the Junior Management Assistant include: assisting the Project Manager and Manager Assistant in implementing the ADA Transition Plan curb ramp prioritization process; applying Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to implement and improve the prioritization process; assisting in reviewing current procedures for the collection of field data and data entry in the Curb Ramp Information System (CRIS) database; assisting in maintaining and updating the CRIS database user interface in coordination with IT support staff; assisting in revising the CRIS database workflow logic to improve the database user interface; preparing and presenting data in spreadsheets, graphs, reports and maps for departmental meetings, Mayor’s Office On Disability, Mayor’s Disability Council, and Board of Supervisors; gathering, compiling, and analyzing data on accessibility requests from the general public and government officials; supervising Student Interns; preparing performance plans and appraisals for staff; assisting in the preparation of grant proposals for pedestrian and transit projects; assisting in the development and changes to rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, accounting, finance, economics, social sciences, education, or related field, or other areas closely related to specific department program or function.
Substitution: May substitute up to two (2) years of the required education with additional qualifying experience in program/office/operations management, budget development and/or administration, or contract/grant administration. One year (2000 hours) of additional qualifying experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester units/45 quarter units.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of ADA accessibility issues, requirements and applications to construction in the public right of way
- Knowledge and experience in the use of MS Office including Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access Structured Query Language
- Strong foundation in GIS (vector data) or possession of a GIS/GIT Certification (please submit GIS certificate). or GIS/GIT-related degree
- Experience with ESRI Desktop and ArcGISOnline
