SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE EXAMINATION

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING EXAM INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AS IT CONTAINS INFORMATION THAT MAY AFFECT YOUR SCORE AND RANK ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

THIS SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE JOB APPLICATION AT THE TIME OF FILING. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY LOWER YOUR OVERALL SCORE ON THIS EXAMINATION OR RESULT IN YOUR DISQUALIFICATION. FURTHER, PLEASE BE ADVSED THAT ANY FALSE, INCOMPLETE, DECEPTIVE OR INCORRECT STATEMENTS MAY RESULT IN YOUR DISQUALIFICATION OR DISMISSAL FROM EMPLOYMENT (IF AN EMPLOYEE OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO).

The purpose of the SQ is o determine your knowledge, skills, and abilities in job related areas identified as critical for satisfactory performance in this position.

(Candidates who achieve a passing score on the multiple choice examination, which is accounted for 40% of the total weight of your final score, will continue in the selection process and will have their supplemental questionnaire evaluated and scored.)  

The quality of your responses in the supplemental questionnaire will account for 60% of the total weight of your final score.  Your application or additional attached documents (e.g. resumes, cover letters, letters of reference/recommendation, etc.) will NOT be considered during the scoring process.  A passing score must be achieved on the Supplemental Questionnaire in order to continue in the selection process.  Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final score.  

It is suggested that you:

  • Allow ample time to submit your application and Supplemental Questionnaire responses before the filing deadline.
  • Review the questions first, prepare and save your responses in a word processing document, and then paste them into the spaces provided on the online Supplemental Questionnaire.
  • Please be as succinct as possible in your responses.  Please limit responses to no more than one (1) page per question
  • Ensure that your responses are sufficiently detailed to assist in evaluating your knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Provide your best or highest examples of work. If a question does not relate to you, provide the most closely related answer possible or put down 'not applicable'.
  • Provide all information requested even if it appears redundant. Do not write "see application" or "see resume" as a response.

The responses that you provide to this questionnaire must be consistent with the information on your application, and are subject to verification.

Once you click on the submit button, your application and supplemental questionnaire are subject for review. Responses can not be changed or edited after submission.

Describe your professional-level experience in complex policy analysis, project management, public administration and/or consulting. Include a brief description of the organization and discuss your involvement in the following tasks: interviewing key stakeholders, benchmarking/best practices research data collection, synthesis, and analysis, data visualization, and communication of findings and recommendations.

Describe a specific example from your experience where you used analytical software such as Excel, Access, Tableau, PowerBI, R, SPSS, SAS, SQL, STATA, or others to review data and analyze a policy problem. Clearly explain the limitations with your data set, including a discussion of variables both within and outside your immediate control.

Explain a specific example from your professional-level experience where you performed sophisticated data analysis, including data collection, data cleaning, formatting and normalization, trend analysis, and any other related tasks resulting in a high quality product.

Describe your experience identifying, reviewing, analyzing and providing oral and written findings and recommendations to management and others on the impact of a change in the policies and procedures, budget or operations of a department, project, program or company. Include the challenges you faced in presenting your findings to those different audiences, and describe how you overcame those issues.
