Position Description:  Career Connect - Employment Track

·       35 hours per week @ $19.81 per hour.

·       This is an 8-month paid internship that allows youth ages 18-25 to gain work experience and training so that they can be placed in a job at SFO.

·       Interns in our training programs are hired as temporary employees of the City and County of San Francisco in the 9920 Assistant to Professional series.

·       This program is not for applicants who are currently attending college, although we have helped interns enroll in college at the end of their internship if they want to pursue higher education.

·       All interns receive training in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. There are paid opportunities to take more computer classes as an intern.

·       After successful completion of the orientation Employment Track interns are placed in their SFO Host Office. SFO Host Office sites include Reprographics (hands on), Contracts Administration Unit, SFPD: Airport Bureau, the Security Access Office, Revenue Development and Management, Customer Service, Economic and Community Development, Terminal Systems, and more! Each intern’s host office is determined by SFO Internships staff.

·       In addition to administrative/clerical work in their host office, interns will also work with the SFO Internships team to develop life skills around money management, communication, housing and transportation, and job readiness.

·       BART tickets/transit tokens are provided to interns in good standing.  Interns are also given a stipend for dress clothes.

 

After participating in the EMPLOYMENT TRACK internship:

 

·       Interns are evaluated throughout their internship by all levels of SFO Internships staff and their SFO Mentors at their host office.

·       Interns that successfully complete the Employment Track internship with quality evaluations are offered the chance to transition to a job at one of the private companies at SFO.

·       Past SFO interns have transitioned to positions such as Ramp Agents, Customer Service Associates, Baristas, Food Service Workers, Bag Wrappers, etc. The average wage for these jobs are between $14.50 - $18.00/hour.

 

Permanent or long-term employment with the Airport Commission is not offered following this internship.

 

Minimum Qualifications

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

·       Between the ages of 18-25

·       GED, Diploma, or Certificate of Completion

·       No felony convictions for the last 10 years

·       Submit to and pass a pre-employment screening

·       Ability to work up to 35 hours per week Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm

·       Either living in San Francisco or with a San Francisco affiliation (originally from SF, went to school in SF, out of home placement in SF, etc.)

 

No need to be the “perfect” job candidate. Career Connect is for young people with little to no work experience, or with the desire to improve their professionalism and skill set.

 

Depending on Airport project needs and intern interests or skill sets, assignments include entry-level work in clerical, delivery or support.

 

In addition to providing training, parking or transit options, interns benefit from the mentorship of diverse Airport Commission staff.

 

Although SFO Career Connect interns are considered trainees, interns are expected to function as City employees.

Selection Procedures

Screening of Applications:
Applications will be screened to determine candidates’ qualifications. Only those applicants who meet the application requirements may be invited to participate in the selection process.  Applicants meeting the application requirements are not guaranteed advancement to the interview.

 

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance:
Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history record check, including FBI fingerprints, and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening.  Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1, every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination.  Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.

 

Conviction History

As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances, such as:

  • Candidates applying for positions with the Unified School District and the Community College District may be disqualified from consideration should their conviction history not meet the standards established under the California Education Code.

Disaster Service Workers

All City and County of San Francisco employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
