The Airport Commission is seeking two (2) currently enrolled graduate-level or upper-division undergraduate students to fill two intern positions in the Landside Operations section.  Selected students will be hired on a part-time basis, one during Summer 2014 and the other during Fall 2014, exact dates subject to determination.


Appointment Type:  Temporary exempt as-needed appointment not to exceed 500 hours.  Exempt appointees serve at the Appointing Officer’s discretion. 


Working Hours:  Standard business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm). 


Working Conditions:  Primarily office work with some field work.  A personal vehicle is not required for this position.

Under supervision, as a participant in a work-study program leading to a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in City Planning or closely related field with a transportation planning emphasis, the incumbent will assist in airport ground transportation management, revenue development, vehicle emissions reduction policies and projects, rail and bus service improvements, employee commute initiatives and air passenger access surveys.  As assigned, the incumbent will gather, compile, analyze, and highlight information in concise and timely reports; communicate with public, private, and nonprofit agency employees and members of the traveling public, and perform other duties as required.


This position is primarily funded with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5304 – Surface Transportation Planning grant funds administered through the California Department of Transportation.

Minimum Qualifications

1.      A Bachelor’s Degree, and completion of one full semester of graduate study as of the date of the announcement at a recognized university in a program leading to a Master’s degree in City or Regional Planning or related field, with a transportation planning emphasis; OR

2.      Upper division standing in a program at a recognized university leading to a Bachelor’s degree in City or Regional Planning or related field, with a transportation planning emphasis.



The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalist at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

·        Team player possessing integrity necessary for a public service position.

·        Excellent oral communication skills.

·        High degree of familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access).

                Knowledge of statistics and statistical software programs.

Selection Procedures

Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history check, including FBI fingerprints, and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening.  Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1, every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination.  Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.

Disaster Service Workers
