WORKING TITLE: Cloud Services Architect
Incumbent will conduct the majority of work at the Department of Technology, One South Van Ness, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103. However, there may be situations where the incumbent will be required to work at other sites throughout the City of San Francisco as required.
NATURE OF WORK:
Candidate must be willing to work a 40-hour week as determined by the department. Travel within San Francisco may be required.
Under the general direction of the Chief Technology Officer, the Cloud Services Architect is responsible for the overall design of the cloud services architecture. A cloud architect evaluates a company’s computing needs and deploys appropriate solutions. A cloud architect needs to be familiar with various cloud technologies and should understand the benefits and drawbacks of different solutions.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The Cloud Services Architect has responsibility for architecture, design, and implementation of cloud-based solutions, including private, community, and public cloud deployment models for the City and County of San Francisco. Responsibilities also include designing and building service models for cloud including Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service, and Software-as-a-Service.
- Leads the virtual architecture team in the adoption of a Hybrid Cloud model future, with the development of a private cloud on-premise and the consumption of public and community cloud as business and applications requirements dictate.
- Leads the virtual architecture team in the design of the infrastructure for data center processes and technologies to meet operations objectives for cloud.
- Leads collaboration between core infrastructure and application teams related to cloud adoption.
- Leads the virtual architecture team in creating and maintaining documentation on the cloud services environment.
- Assists in the management of cloud services support escalations between application/core enterprise teams and cloud service providers.
- Seeks innovative solutions to problems and makes recommendations for implementations.
- Participates in business requirement gathering sessions, gathers user data requirements, understand the user requirements and assist in the reconciliation of technical and business requirements as they relate to cloud.
- Participates in the evaluation and recommendation of the appropriate cloud management platform tools, procedures, and facilities for creating and maintaining the enterprise cloud services model.
- Maintains, governs and enforces cloud architecture-related standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain this would be:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, business administration, or a closely related field
EXPERIENCE: One to two years in the information systems field, including programming and system analysis or closely related experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to assume responsibility for most if not all of the system development cycle.
The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
Experience supporting production infrastructure (network, infrastructure and storage), including at least 5+ years of experience designing and architecting scalable and redundant enterprise hosted systems.
Experiencing designing and implementing large scale VMWare based cloud services including VCenter.
3+ years of designing complex and large scale cloud Architecture.
A master’s degree in computer science or information systems.
Highly technical experience with large server and application deployments and virtualization.
Highly technical and analytical, possess 5 plus years implementation/consulting experience.
Has demonstrated the ability to work well with others and be respected as a leader.
Has a track record of remaining unbiased toward specific technologies or vendors.
Excellent communicator and collaborator across multiple technical and business stakeholders and leaders.
Understanding of application, severs, and network security technologies.
Hands on Cloud Architecture experience, Virtualization Technologies, Server Automation, Operation Orchestration.
In depth knowledge on Virtualization technologies, specifically VMWare.
In depth knowledge and hands on experience with DNS, LDAP, TCP/IP, SNMP and other networking protocols.
Identifies and evaluates future technologies for applicable solutions.
This role will lead and manage a virtual team of information architects, while leveraging subject matter experts from any needed area.
Collaborate with business constituents, other architect team members, project teams and IT staff, as needed, to fulfill the responsibilities described above.
