PIPE WELDER
JOB OBJECTIVE/SUMMARY
This position performs work welding piping systems to be used in industrial applications. The position is responsible to properly weld pipe constructed of various metals including aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy 20, and duplex based on the ASME B31.3 welding specification. Acceptable welds must pass X-Ray testing. The position performs work according to the specifications in engineering drawings, blueprints, layout, and diagrams in accordance with specific quality system standards such as ISO 9001 and other such international quality system standards. Performs other tasks as assigned by management.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurately select type and size of pipe and related materials needed for project
Use appropriate tools/machinery to measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe per design specifications
Efficiently operate pipe threading machine, pipe saw, pipe cutter, cutting torch, crane, and other factory machinery as required by management
Weld in horizontal, flat, overhead, and vertical positions
Accurately read a tape measure
Accurately assemble and weld piping system components together including tubing, joints, plates, and other components as designated in engineering drawings
Efficiently perform visual inspections and identify quality defects
Effectively utilize designated systems to document quality defects
Tack welding as necessary or required
Efficiently operate welding equipment to produce desired welds (power on, strike arc to generate heat and deposit metal to join edges of work, manually guide welding gun along the weld-line, maintain length of arc and speed of movement to form the specific depth of fusion and bead)
Rotational duties to perform other functions in production process
Wear appropriate PPE as required
Follow all required safety policies and requirements
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to pass ASME Section IX welder qualifications testing including bend, visual, and radiography testing (testing includes 2” carbon steel 6G pipe coupon)
Flux core (FCAW) and (GTAW) welding proficiency
Must be able to feel texture and grip with fingers
Visual ability to inspect various things including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be proficient in MIG & TIG welding
High school diploma
Experience welding pipe in the steel industry is preferred.
Must be able to pass drug screen
Must be able to pass background check
Must be at least 18 years of age
