Shipping Clerk

 

 

 

 

Summary/Objective:  

 

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for assembling orders and preparing goods for shipment. Receives and unpacks materials, supplies and completes shipping and receiving reports.

 

Essential Functions:                   

  • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness and condition of shipments.
  • Unloads freight and sorts for delivery.
  • Maintains records for all incoming deliveries; processes any invoices or bills of lading with shipments.
  • Contact carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications and seals loaded boxcars and truck doors.
  • Pack, seal, label and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping. Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
  • Distribute Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDSs) that were included in shipments.
  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks and lays out position of shipment.
  • Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. 
  • Performs other shipping/receiving activities as assigned. 
  • Notify suppliers of under or overage quantities.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and shipping and receiving area.
  • Follow proper shipping procedures, including all customers, packaging agreements, print labels are required.
  • Maintains adherence to company policies, safety/ergonomic standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

The associate is occasionally required to climb or balance.  The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. pounds with the average weight being 10 pounds and occasionally push up to 50 pounds.

 

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:   

         

This is a full-time position. Hours will be first shift, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm 

 

 

Required Education and Experience: 

 

  • High School Diploma/GED Required.
  • Prior Shipping/Receiving experience in a manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
