Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is part of the division Mercedes-Benz Vans of Daimler AG, Germany. It is a plant in South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner, with headquarters in Charleston, SC. The midsize Metris van was added to the assembly line in 2015.

 

Mercedes-Benz Vans announced in March 2015 that it will invest $500 million in construction of a new Sprinter production plant, in addition to an expansion of existing assembly operations. The new facility will be also located in Charleston, and will provide up to 1,300 jobs.  

 

More than 130,000 Sprinter have been assembled in Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the third largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany and the U.K.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Assemblers at Mercedes-Benz Vans work within a team in an assembly-line environment building state-of-the-art vans for the American automotive market.

 

 

  • Prepare the assembly  
    • Check production documents for completeness
    • Inspect incoming parts for completeness and quality
    • Provide feedback on missing/incomplete documents or parts
  • Assemble components and/or assemblies
    • According to the appropriate work instructions, mount various assemblies and components on numerous or different stations within an allotted timeframe
    • Report self-discovered defects/errors
    • Ensure the assembly meets high quality standards
  • Perform maintenance work according to specifications (tool maintenance, housekeeping, Total Production Maintenance) within individual workstation and on station tools
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Process

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum or 1 year experience in an assembly/manufacturing environment

-or-

  • The completion of a Basic Industrial Work Skills certificate or similar

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic hand/power tool familiarity
  • Preferred experience in automotive production
