Maintenance Electronic Technician

 

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is part of the division Mercedes-Benz Vans of Daimler AG, Germany. It is a plant in South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner, with headquarters in Charleston, SC. The midsize Metris van was added to the assembly line in 2015.

 

Mercedes-Benz Vans announced in March 2015 that it will invest $500 million in construction of a new Sprinter production plant, in addition to an expansion of existing assembly operations. The new facility will also be located in Charleston, and will provide up to 1,300 jobs.    
 

More than 130,000 Sprinter have been assembled in Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the third largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany and the U.K.

 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform repair work including necessary disassembly and assembly 
  • Identifying and analyzing errors and malfunctions such as:
    • Intermittent/inconsistent failures PLC, CNC, PC controllers, and fieldbus technology/control technology
    • Complex mechanical components
    • Possibility of error chain (cause of error is prior to where it is detected)
  • Perform modernizations, extensions, and modifications according to specifications and/or sketches. If necessary, adjust programming or rebuild. Independently construct or design equipment with use of PLC, BUS-Systems, Network Technology, Mechanical Components, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems and Cooling/Lubrication Systems Optimizing resources and installations (idea generation and planning)
    • Changing processes
    • Changing process parameters
    • Changing hardware Modification of software (PLC, PC, etc.)
  • Procurement of operative materials, equipment, and service provider
  •  Staff support or allocation

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 5 years of relevant maintenance experience  

-or-

  •  Associates Degree in a technical trade (industrial technology, electronics, mechatronics, etc.) and 2 years relevant maintenance experience

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of industrial electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, metal processing, and data processing
  • PLC/BUS system education and/or experience preferred
