Under the ownership of Oceana Gold, the Haile Gold Mine of Lancaster County, South Carolina is transforming regional economic development while setting new standards for environmental protection throughout the industry.

 

By applying proven, modern technology and eco-friendly practices that go beyond regulatory requirements, millions of dollars are being invested in the community to build the mine and extract its estimated 30.5 million tons at 2.06 g/t for 2 million ounces of gold reserves(1). When all is said and done, more than 800 jobs will be created in an effort to make the Haile Gold Mine the most productive mine of its kind east of the Mississippi River – and the industry’s most environmentally sound operation throughout the United States. Mine Geology Technician

 

  

Job Summary:  The Mine Geology Technician reports to the Mine Manager. This hands-on position provides sampling survey support to the Mine Division. The job requires coordination with mine operations and technical services to achieve planned goals.

 

 

 

Basic Functions of the Position:  

 

  • Follow company safety and environmental standards
  • Inventory, collect and transport production blasthole samples to Kershaw Mineral Lab
  • Verify production blasthole sample locations and note any discrepancies from plan
  • Collect quality control samples from production blasthole cuttings
  • Measure, bag, and insert blank/check material into daily sample deliveries
  • Export, process, and verify barcode scanner tool data
  • Coordinate with surveyors to layout and sample overburden storage and softrock mining areas
  • Assists surveyors with mine survey work

 

Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Mine and/or survey work experience desirable but not required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Full SC Manual Driver’s License
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see
  • Work is in an open pit mine setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in the mine environment including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Experience supervising groups of employees
  • Experience directing the work of contractors
  • Acts in a manner that builds trust and demonstrates integrity
