The following supplemental questionnaire is the examination for this recruitment and will be used to determine your examination score.  Note: The supplemental questionnaire and the application are administered as two separate documents.  The supplemental questionnaire is the only item used to determine your examination score which will, in turn, determine your ranking and placement on the eligible list.

SECTION II: EXAMINATION QUESTIONS (SCORED)

This section of the supplemental questionnaire will serve as the examination for this recruitment. Panel members who rate the responses to this section will ONLY have access to the supplemental questionnaire.  They will NOT have access to information contained in the application or resume. In order to receive every consideration in the selection process, you must respond to all questions with concise but detailed answers and provide all requested information.  Each answer will be scored separately.  Responses such as, "See Resume" or "See Application" will not be scored.

Describe your experience in leading, supervising, and/or managing professional, technical, and administrative support staff. In your answer, describe:

  • Your leadership role;
  • How you prioritized and evaluated your staff's work;

  • Development, recommendation and implementation of goals, comprehensive programs, policies, and procedures;
  • Interpretation, application, and enforcement of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and organizational policies and procedures; and/or
  • Participation and/or administration of the strategic planning and workforce planning process including needs assessment, projection, development of upward mobility plans, and employee development.

Describe a resolution to a significant problem that you encountered on a project/program you managed that best characterizes your leadership and management style. Define the nature of the problem, the procedures and methods you used to resolve it, the results, and what, if anything, you would do differently in the future.

Describe a situation in which you quickly had to become a subject-matter expert in order to provide written and verbal recommendations on a subject to executive management, elected officials, and/or external stakeholders. PUBLIC WORKS AND FACILITIES: Provides a wide range of public services including, but not limited to, the following: public transit services; engineering design and construction of public roads, storm-drain systems, and other similar facilities; bridge rehabilitations; roadway maintenance of public roads, including snow removal; managing and maintaining County offices and facilities throughout the County, as well as County parks and campgrounds, sewer lines, and wastewater treatment plants; designing and overseeing construction of new County facilities; managing County leases and building contracts, as well as the Countywide solid waste facilities and programs.
HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES: HHS provides a unified system of quality services to safeguard the health and well being of people in Placer County. Services provided by the department's six divisions include: Crisis & Emergency Services for Family & Children (CPS) and Adult Mental Health/APS, along with a full spectrum of care and support for children and families; a full range of treatment and support services to assist adults and older adults in achieving optimal level of independence; eligibility determinations and employment services to assist with overcoming barriers to employment and achieving self-sufficiency; provides temporary short-term assistance to eligible adults, eliminating or minimizing environmental health hazards; animal care and control programs; health programs to promote healthy lifestyles and behaviors; and primary outpatient medical, dental, and pharmacy services.
