BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for conducting specialized training and staff development programs at an assigned correctional facility, at a training academy or for a department region/division.  This includes evaluating and determining employee training needs, preparing required curriculum and conducting training on various topics and skills.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

This job family consists of four levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of the assignments skills required to complete specific assignments, and the responsibility for the supervision of others.

Level II:   
This is the career level of this job family where employees are assigned full responsibility for developing and conducting various types of training and related activities in a correctional training program at a facility, unit, or district.  This will include preparing any required lesson plans or other materials, conducting classes, workshops or seminars, evaluating participant results, preparing required reports, and other related activities.  Employees assigned to this level may also be responsible for providing training at an academy or division level while under the guidance or indirect supervision of a higher level Correctional Training Officer or staff member. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level II:  
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree PLUS one (1) year of qualifying experience experience in correctional or security work, training, adult education or human resource development OR a master’s degree in adult education or human resource development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of correctional or security work, training, adult education or human resource development for each year of the required education

NOTE:  Experience must have been the primary responsibility in order to be considered as qualifying.
