Nature of Work

The Major provides administrative assistance to the Sheriff’s upper management staff. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the financial management for the Sheriff’s Office, overseeing the purchase of goods and services, overseeing the archiving or warehousing of documents and materials, managing the training program, assisting with the emergency communications network, and other related administrative duties. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by observation and by review of records and reports by the Assistant Chief and the Chief Deputy.

Minimum Qualifications

As of the closing date, all Deputy Sheriff Captains in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office who have completed one year of service within the department as a Deputy Sheriff Captain dating from the day of their appointment to Captain are eligible to compete in the process.

Special Requirements

Obtain a certificate in emergency communication district administration and maintain the certificate through continuing education.

Kind of Examination

The Montgomery City-County Personnel Department will establish an employment register to fill one vacancy in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Since there are five or less qualified applicants, applicants will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in random order as generated from a computer-based random ordering system.
