Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to plan and direct Montgomery Zoo education programming.  Work responsibilities include: assists citizens and/or teachers with developing educational materials or programs; recommends expenditures from Zoo operating budget; researches, plans and prepares education support materials; performs animal care duties; prepares and gives public presentations; recruits, trains, manages and plans the activities of adult and youth volunteers.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Services Manager at the Zoo. 

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a Bachelors Degree in biology, zoology, education or a related field and one (1) year of paid experience, managing the care of wild and exotic animals or planning and researching for zoo education.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work nights, holidays or weekends as needed to promote special events or programs and to attend out of town conferences or meetings as needed. Must be able to obtain a TB test and CPR training within the first month of employment.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Zoo. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and attached supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants.  Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
