Nature of Work

The fundamental reason that this classification exists is to assist in the maintenance of an inventory of various stored materials. The essential functions of this classification include: receiving items for inventory, maintaining the items in storage, issuing and releasing items, and performing other related duties. The supervisors of these employees vary by assigned location.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED certificate and six months of experience in warehouse operations such as receiving, issuing and storing materials.

Special Requirements

Must have or obtain a valid and current Alabama driver's license in order to drive vehicles for the delivery or pick-up of items.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Incumbents kneel, crouch, twist, climb ladders and stairs, reach, bend, push, pull, drag, grasp and lift items in the storage facility. Some positions may require incumbents to lift up to 80 pounds unassisted.  

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill two (2) vacancies and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Purchasing Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based on education and experience as shown on the application.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered in order to rank applicants on the employment register. Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
