The fundamental reason this position exists is to act as a lead in providing animal care to elephants housed in the Montgomery Zoo. The essential functions are: observes elephant collections and exhibits; maintains elephant exhibits; feeds elephants; leads Zookeeper I (Elephants); and contributes to departmental objectives. The Elephant Zookeeper II may be asked to work with other animals or in other animal areas as deemed necessary by the department. The Zookeeper II (Elephant) is distinguished from the Zookeeper I (Elephant) in that the Zookeeper II assigned more complex projects, requires less direct supervision, and serves as a lead worker to the Zookeeper I (Elephant) classification. The Elephant Zookeeper II reports directly to the Assistant Animal Care Manager and/or the Animal Care Manager. However, the Elephant Zookeeper II may receive direction and supervision from other managers and supervisors depending on assignment.
