Introduction

Main Purpose of Job

Maintain the efficiency of the Student Life Office in order to maximize the goal of social, physical, intellectual, emotional, and communicative development of the students in support of the academic components of Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD). The Student Life Secretary works with staff members to ensure that the Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner (RCYCP) program is operating at maximum capacity.

This is a part-time position.  The work hours are Monday thru Thursday 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm and some Friday hours as needed.

POSITION DUTIES

Do daily rounds to pick up and drop off campus mail and postal mail, then distribute to proper staff.

Answer the phone/VP and  take messages when needed.

Respond to emails daily and reply as needed.

Schedule interviews and appointments and document on the computer calendar.

Maintain RCYCP staff and students records for DHR and MDH audits.

Keep record of Red Cross records and NCI training for each school year.

Keep record of RCYCP DHR/DMH training hours earned for each school year including on-line training and RCYCP CEUs.

Oversee RCYCP applications are completed and mailed to DHMH for new staff.

Share information with the Pertinent Data Programmer on any changes related to Students’ Pertinent Information, Security Information, and MSD Communication Binder.

Design, proofread and distribute weekly Student Life Newsletter via email.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years performing secretarial or clerical work. Must be able to use a computer, be familiar with Word documents, Excel and Power Point.  Experience with Google Docs is required.

Must be proficient in ASL.

Must complete the paperwork and course work to become certified as a Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.  (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)

Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated. The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. All information concerning your qualifications must be submitted by the closing date. We will not consider information submitted after this date. Applicants certified to list will receive eligibility for a period of one (1) year.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
