Introduction

This is a 12 month position scheduled to start July 1, 2018.  This position is in the Family Education and Early Childhood Education Department.

Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of this position is to organize and foster a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, child communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; managing budget items; partnering/working with counties' infant and toddler programs and writing grants.

POSITION DUTIES

Develop and maintain all pertinent records for each child and family.

Observe and evaluate staff on a scheduled basis.

Assist teachers in formulating appropriate educational objectives, strategies, and activities, including review of IFSPs, IEPs, and unit and lesson plans.

Systematically maintain and review students learning data to improve instruction, intervention, and placement.

Assist with coordination of efforts of guidance personnel, psychologists, representatives of appropriate community agencies, and other specialists for the benefit of students.

Coordinate the assigning of staff to classes.

Attend local meetings and state briefings led by MSDE and the Counties.

Coordinate ASL classes and parent groups for families.

Assist with classroom management.

Collaborate with County’s Service Coordinators.

Meet new families; co-coordinate with Outreach in providing tours of FE/ECD Department.

Develop state and federal grant requests, monitor awarded grants and generate required reports.

Attend IEP and IFSP meetings to assist with the development of goals; support the implementation of accommodations per student’s IFSP/IEP.

Participate in the implementation of school mission beliefs and language policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master's Degree in the Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities, or related field required. Maryland State Department of Education Administrator I required (or the ability to obtain in a specific time).

Experience: A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students is required. Fluency in American Sign Language and written English, and knowledge of Deaf community required. Superior interpersonal and active listening skills required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in administration/supervision preferred.  Experience in leadership activities that involve organizing, planning, directing, and monitoring resources preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
