POSITION DUTIES

This position is located within the Business Tax Unit of the Field Audit Section in the Compliance Division.

The incumbent will be responsible for managing the resources of the Business Tax Audit Section to achieve and maintain voluntary taxpayer compliance via the audit of taxpayers for the following taxing areas: Alcohol & Tobacco Tax, Corporate Income Tax, Motor Fuel Tax, Motor Carrier Tax through IFTA, Withholding Tax, Bay Restoration Fee, and Unclaimed Property. In addition, this position directs, manages, and supervises the various levels of audit and clerical personnel to ensure that the assigned work is being effectively and efficiently performed by providing technical assistance, procedural advice and personnel guidance. The incumbent will conduct interviews or assign the duty for conducting interviews for the purpose of hiring competent section personnel and to ensure that all required personnel procedures are adhered to.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in accounting or related courses including business law and statistics.

Experience - Four (4) years of experience examining, analyzing, and interpreting accounting systems, records, and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.  

NOTES:

  1. Applicants who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
  2. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Five (5) years of experience performing or reviewing business tax audits with a concentration in sales & use tax and/or admissions & amusement tax.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Only applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience. Due to the nature of this list, all qualified applicants are placed on an unranked list of candidates and will remain active on this list for at least one year.  

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
