Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the Chief of Center for Injury Epidemiology, in the Office of Environmental, Occupational, and Injury Epidemiology. This is a senior level management position that requires highly skilled program administration and data expertise. The position supervises the activities of the two employees and two graduate student interns, who are primarily responsible for various tasks related to the Maryland Violent Death Reporting System within the Center. Key responsibilities include managing the development, implementation and evaluation of all programmatic and surveillance activities for the Center, and epidemiologic support for the Center (including but not limited to the Violent Death Reporting System). Further, the position makes recommendations concerning legislation affecting injury prevention in the State of Maryland.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.  Graduate transcripts must accompany your application.  Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Experience: Three years of experience as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note:

1. Candidates may substitute a Doctoral degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of six graduate courses in Epidemiology and three graduate courses in Biostatistics for the required education and experience.  Transcripts must accompany your application.  Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate will have three years of experience with injury surveillance and data, SAS, and supervision. Candidates should be comfortable with violent subject matter.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
