Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full time contractual position is to perform analysis of drug-related overdose morbidity and mortality data. This position will have responsibility for developing techniques to more efficiently process drug overdose death and hospitalization data, to analyze trends, and to develop reports to be disseminated for various State and jurisdictional stakeholders. The employee will perform linkages of several datasets to produce databases that can be used to target new interventions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: Three years of experience as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note: 1. Candidates may substitute a Doctoral degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of six graduate courses in Epidemiology and three graduate courses in Biostatistics for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science  classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal applicant should have extensive experience using SAS to manipulate and perform statistical analysis of health data. They should have experience analyzing ESSENCE syndromic surveillance data. They should also have experience using ArcGIS to map health data. They should be familiar with ICD10 codings for mortality data and ICD10-CM codings for hospitalization data.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
