Main Purpose of Job
This position reports directly to the Epidemiologist III and provides statistical analysis, data and research pertaining to disease and disease prevention within Howard County. Duties range from establishing procedures for the ongoing and systematic evaluation of disease programs and interventions to the analysis of patterns and trends of disease. Duties also include assisting the Health Officer, Deputy Health Officer, Director of Policy, Planning and Communications, Health Policy Analyst, and other programs within the department to design and use tools for epidemiological investigations and creating reports. This position also oversees the monthly HealthStat data collection and analysis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Desired qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint
- Detail Oriented
- Experience with reportable infectious diseases
- Experience with National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS)
- Experience with ArcGIS
- Experience with Tableau (data visualization tool)

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
