Main Purpose of Job

To act as the Information Specialist/Office Coordinator at the Laurel Regional Training Center. This would involve, on a daily basis, interfacing with customers, employers and other partners and stakeholders to insure they receive the highest level of customer service possible. Additionally, this person will present value added workshops to customers at the training center to include: Dress for Success, Effectively Using the Maryland Workforce Exchange and Essential Communication Tools.

POSITION DUTIES

- Design, develop and deliver value added training sessions.  These might include but would not limited to: Dress for Success, Effectively using the Maryland Workforce Exchange (MWE), Essential Communication Tools, Introduction to Word.

- Document results of workshops using the automated data system.

- Follow up with participants using mail, email and phone to determine status.

- Referring workshop completers to available appropriate jobs for which they qualify or to training, and performing job development when necessary.

- manage all activities related to the front desk- to include insuring customers are in the right place for training, direct customers to proper entity.

- Maintain center calendar and answer questions about space availability.

- Answer telephone, email and in person inquires about center capabilities.

- Provide general oversight of the front desk area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in the field of workforce development involving conducting interviews with persons seeking employment and providing assistance to employers needing qualified personnel to fill vacancies.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in workforce development taking job orders from employers, conducting job-ready interviews, registering job applicants, verifying job referrals, conducting vocational placements, performing unemployment adjudications, or appraising job applicants for employability may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Education at an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience at the rate of thirty credit hours for each year of experience for up to two years of experience.

3. Active duty military recruiting experience or career counseling experience may be substituted on a year-by-year bases for the required education or experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must have at least one year experience with workforce development, with experience in making presentations to diverse groups. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualification:

- Four year college degree

- Exceptional oral and written communication and customer service skills. -

 Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

- Skilled in Microsoft Office.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
