Main Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for the construction, installation, alteration, removal, maintenance and repair of wooden structures, concrete forms, drywall, scaffolds, frame shelters, platforms, sign boards and general supports. Also responsible for insuring that the building is in a safe condition and that all aspects of the facility are maintained.
POSITION DUTIES
Constructs, installs, alters, removes, maintains and repairs wooden structures, concrete forms, drywall, scaffolds, frame shelters, platforms, sign boards and general supports. Participates in maintenance department work teams to help construct partitions, wall, ceilings, etc. Keeps stock of supplies and submits a list of materials needed. Performs preventative maintenance (oiling, lubricating, belt tension, adjustments, etc.) on carpentry tools and equipment and keeps maintenance records of work performed. Keeps shop, work and storage area organized, clean and safe.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience:
Five years of experience in general carpentry, two years of which must have been in finish or trim carpentry work or in cabinetmaking.
Notes:

Applicants may substitute additional carpentry experience at a rate of one year of experience for two years of education for up to four years of the required education.

Graduation from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a concentration in carpentry may be substituted for three years of the required experience.

Graduation from a vocational or technical trade school with a concentration in carpentry may be substituted for up to three years of the required experience.

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in builder classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the carpentry field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
At least 6 months of experience providing carpentry work in a large building/facility occupied by at 250 or more individuals is required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience reading, interpreting and working from blueprints, drawings, and specifications is preferred.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS
The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
