Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to be responsible for receiving, sorting and date stamping incoming mail, data entry into different databases, answering and recording messages and forwarding them to the proper location. This position is also responsible for sorting and scanning documents. Other duties may include entering productivity figures on Excel Spreadsheets in order to produce productivity reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:  One year of experience keying large amounts of alpha, numeric or symbolic data from source documents into a computer or onto magnetic tape or disk according to a production schedule.

NOTE:

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the clerical support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have the ability to use a computer, copier, fax machine, scanner and printer and be an energetic person who will thrive in a fast paced environment with the ability to be a team player.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.  Candidates must demonstrate the ability to keyboard at forty words per minute on a standard keyboard or one hundred keystrokes per minute on data entry equipment.

2.  Employees in this classification must meet production standards established by the employing agency.

SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
