Introduction

The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) oversees and coordinates all components of the statewide EMS system (including planning, operations, evaluation, and research), provides leadership and medical direction, conducts and/or supports EMS educational programs, operates and maintains a statewide communications system, designates trauma and specialty centers, licenses and regulates commercial ambulance services, and participates in EMS-related public education and prevention programs.

Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the lead worker in the inspection, licensing and regulating of commercial ambulance services to ensure compliance with governing State and Federal laws and regulations and emergency medical services certification and licensing requirements. This employee provides advice and guidance to contractual commercial ambulance inspectors during peak inspection and licensing periods. The work is performed in an office setting as well as outdoors under varying weather conditions and requires` frequent travel to various commercial ambulance companies throughout the state.

POSITION DUTIES

The Licensing Specialist will assist the Director in the State Office of Commercial Ambulance Licensing and Regulation (SOCALR) with handling all different aspects of licensing and regulating commercial ambulance services within Maryland.  The Licensing Specialist will help enhance the operation of the SOCALR office by performing delegated office duties specific to the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited High School or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years functioning as a certified EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic in Maryland.

Notes: 1. A Bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services or related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

 2. An Associate’s degree in emergency medical services or related field may be substituted for up to six months of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate will possess current certification in the Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification are required to possess a current Maryland Emergency Medical Technical - Intermediate (EMT-I) or Emergency Medical Technical-Paramedic (EMT-P) license.

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification are required to maintain current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).

3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may not be employed by a commercial ambulance service in the State of Maryland.
