Introduction

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

To coordinate and manage the snack bar known as the Underground located in one of the dorm buildings on the Frederick Campus. The coordinator is responsible for maintaining, implementing, designing, and evaluating the Underground including its food and social activities on daily basis. This position will also serve as an in-house substitute for the dorm staff and therefore must be willing to become certified as a Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioner.

POSITION DUTIES

The Underground Coordinator manages the monies exchanged at the Underground and has full book keeping responsibility including maintaining daily, weekly and monthly records.  The Underground is responsible for cleanliness of the Underground and for decorating the center for the Holidays. The Coordinator is also responsible for planning and facilitating intramural (IM) activities in the Underground and assists the RCYCP with the After School Program for High School Students.

Compute credits and debits for accounts according to standardized codes;

Enters, posts and records credits and debits to established ledger accounts;

Proves account balances posted in ledger accounts with source document totals to identify record discrepancies;

Researches discrepancies in account balances by retrieving and examining original chronological records for miscalculations or posting errors;

Corrects inaccuracies in account balances and adjusts accounting records to balance with source document totals;

Maintains accurate data by entering and updating accounts when additional source documents are received;

Communicates with external and internal customers regarding incomplete or inaccurate invoices or reports or delinquent accounts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Must be either 21 years old with a minimum of a high school diploma or possession of a high school equivalency certificate, or at least 18 years old with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions;

Knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping;

Knowledge of the organization of common books of accounts and the process of monitoring financial records;

Skill in posting and balancing accounts and calculating percentages;

Skill in resolving problems associated with incomplete, inaccurate or conflicting source data and in reconciling and correcting errors in specialized accounts;

Ability to communicate effectively.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the child and adolescent developmental process;

Knowledge of the physical, emotional and social aspects of deafness;

Skill in American Sign Language sufficient to permit fluent and accurate communication with students and parents;

Skill in written English sufficient to permit fluent and accurate communication with students and parents who are not proficient in American Sign Language;

Ability to learn emergency medical procedures;

Ability to plan, coordinate and oversee educational and recreational student activities;

Ability to work harmoniously with students and with other employees.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification will be required to obtain and maintain RCYCP certification.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification will be trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid training leading to certification.  These certifications must be kept current as a requirement of residential child care licensure by the Maryland Department of Human Resources.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are required to be proficient American Sign Language and in written English.

2. Employees in this classification will be required to pass a medical examination and annual screening for tuberculosis as a requirement of residential child care licensure by the Maryland State Department of Human Resources.

3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

4. Employees in this classification will be required to apply for a criminal background check as a requirement of the Annotated Code of Maryland, Family Law, Section 5-561.

5. Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
